Better/best times for modifying prebooked Lightning Lanes

Our 7 day prebooking window opened a few days ago and we made our initial LL selections right at 7:00am. We got some pretty good rides and times that we’re generally content with. I’ve got a couple that I’d like to back up to earlier if possible. During this interim between the opening of our prebooking window and our actual day of visit, are there better times to be playing the slots? Or should I just sit tight and wait to see if more/better time slots drop on the day of visit?

I ask because it would seem to me that logically the selection should only get worse as time goes on and more and more guests become eligible to book those days, and I don’t know of any reason that Disney would sprinkle in any additional timeslots ahead of the actual day. I understand that Disney will sprinkle in some on day-of if operating conditions are good, releasing the slots they presumably held in reserve in case of ride downtime. So I would think that the only opportunities to pick up better return times in the interim would come from other guests modifying their plans and dropping time slots I’m looking for. Surely that happens, but I would not expect it to happen that frequently. And if I am correct about that being the primary (or only) source of different time slots during the prebooking period, wouldn’t it make the most sense to be playing the slots whenever the highest number of people would are likely to be active? So for instance, playing the slots late at night is unlikely to be fruitful since fewer other people are modifying their times then. But of course, by the same token, the periods of highest activity should not only have the highest opportunities but also the highest competition, so maybe it is a wash. Anyone have thoughts or insights on when, if at all, there might be an optimal time to try modifying return times during the prebooking period? Or whether my time and sanity might be better served by just waiting until the day of visit?

As an aside that should be (and probably will be) its own post: Anyone else feel a bit discouraged or frustrated at the thought of playing the slots and getting sniped by bots with inhumanly fast reflexes? It certainly leaves a bad taste in my mouth and is why I absolutely despise Standby Skipper, Wait Magic, and their ilk. I hope Disney implements countermeasures against automated third party tools like those. If they don’t, they’re likely to see rising resentment among guests and falling satisfaction with (and confidence in) the LLMP system.

Hi there! I’ve appreciated Rob’s video notes on this in the past! You can do some backing up of times in the days leading up to your trip, but don’t go crazy with it. In down moments when you might normally scroll, start in the MDE app to play the slots first. But the most movement and more availability happens the evening before, at midnight, and the morning of your park day!
